Principal's Message

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to North Dade Center for Modern Languages (CML)

This school year CML celebrates its 29th year anniversary as one of M-DCPS finest and original magnet schools. Our school has established itself as a leader in foreign languages, global education, and meeting the cognitive and affective needs of a diverse multi-ethnic, low socio-economic, urban population. "Preparing Global Thinkers for a Multicultural World" since 1988, CML has long realized that our nation's future success in the world hinges on providing from an early age a world-class education and producing citizens that are adept in world languages and cultures. Our young scholars learn the value of respect for other cultures, the importance of making a difference in our world through civic engagement, and to collaborate with children from all over the world.

As the principal of CML since December 1991, I have seen our school achieve a solid reputation for excellence nationwide, statewide and locally. Our school community has received the high honor of being named a National School of Excellence, 1992; *REDBOOK'S "America's Best Schools," 1995; Art In Public Places, 1996; The School Board of Miami-Dade County, Florida, Platinum Award, 2001 – 2009; Magnet Schools of America: School of Merit, 1995 & 2001; School of Distinction and Excellence, 2003 – 2012; nominated by the Florida Department of Education for the National Blue Ribbon Award, 2013 & 2014, and a consistent school grade of "A" in the State of Florida since 1998.
We are all looking forward to a very successful educational journey, and your joining in the team spirit will help us maintain our high standards and expectations.

Shaping our country's next generation is no easy task, but we love the challenge.

Sincerely,

Dr. Maria A. Castaigne Principal
